HW Check- Show me your Question/It Says?I Say/So chart and your annotated texts. (10 points)
Bell Ringer: Word Play
Remember those vocabulary words from last time? And the ones we have already done?
novice
clandestine
palpable
aloft
abeyance
inference
obscure
beacon
martyr
Write a paragraph or story that uses at least seven (7) of these words. Make sure the words are used appropriately and that it MAKES SENSE! (Can you even manage to use some of the words from advisory too?)
Discussion
Share the graphic organizers with your group. Which questions and responses would lead to good writing? Which threads do you think need some work or were not strong questions to begin with? If the student chose one question to write about, which one should it be? (Do you see where this is leading?)
Mini-Lesson: Can you PEE in your paragraph?
Now...how can we turn those connections into a GOOD cohesive paragraph? We PEE on our paragraphs! Take a look at the examples, rubric, and information regarding writing good paragraphs.
How did you do on your Target Test Open Response? Check out the student exemplars to see how your work compares.
Practice!
Choose one thread from your homework chart. Write an exceptionally wonderful paragraph and publish it to your blog with the label "9-11 Paragraph." Make sure to incorporate lots of PEE, and make sure that your evidence uses quotes from the text that are effectively integrated into your own sentence structure! You have the rubric on the PEE paragraph link.
Homework
Make sure your paragraph is on your blog!
Read and journal! Make sure you are getting some great journal entries done!
If you are unhappy with your grade on the Target Test Open Response, you may revise and turn it in by Wednesday.
